My latest collage; 'Covehithe Church' on the coast of Suffolk. A vast church that was partially demolished in the end of the 17th century as surplus to requirements, and a smaller, much smaller church erected within the ruins. A rather M R James sort of place. 22cms x 10.4 cms on watercolour paper.

Own work: The Sardis Independent Chapel
Another new work for you. The Sardis Independent Chapel, Ystradgynlais, Breconshire. Ystradgynlais, which is visually nearly all Victorian and later, is oddly enough situated south of the Brecon Beacons towards the head of the Tawe valley. So sort of industrial South Wales, really. Not the sort of place one would automatically associate with deeply rural Breconshire. The chapel, perhaps the grandest in the town, dates from the 1860s and is a far more dominant presence in the streetscape than the retiring parish church. As you can see from the collage it is a rather odd building with a number of mannerisms to the classical façade: the bases and capitals of the eight Doric pilasters, (which are missing both their pads, or orli, and abaci), are continuous between adjoining pilasters, and the entablature is missing most of its cornice.
It is now closed. Anyway, this is a mixed-media collage roughly 30 x 37cms on watercolour board.

Own work: Bethania Chapel
A busy few days: Sunday - 'Stir-up Sunday' - was spent making a Christmas cake and yesterday a trip to that attractive market town of Ledbury to meet the brother. We stopped off in Monmouth on the way home. A return visit for me, finding I had forgotten much since that previous visit. The place is rather attractive, and busy. A return visit is a must. Today I managed to finish my latest collage, another, small, depiction of the Bethania Chapel, Morriston, Swansea.

Exhibition and Latest Collage
My first solo exhibition (my first exhibition in Wales too!) is fast approaching! It will be from 20.09.19 - 26.09.19 at Aberglasney Gardens in Carmarthenshire. For further details visit: www.aberglasney.org It is very exciting and beginning to get just a little nerve-wracking.
In the meantime here is the collage I finished a few minutes ago. It alas has no title as yet; I was thinking of something on the lines of 'Victorian tourist in Rome' or some such. 19x25cms mixedmedia on 300gsm watercolour paper.

Own work: Collage
I've been experimenting with collage again in the last few weeks, using news print to suggest masonry. Not entirely sure that the resulting image has been entirely successful....

Own work: Collage
Spurred on by the work of three artists I really admire, John Piper, Mark Hearld and Ed Kluz I've recently returned to the medium of collage, exploring the 'folly in the wood' of an early watercolour and that haunts my sketchbooks. I'm quite happy with the result.
